First Edition Fantasy: Vintage Science Fiction Book Covers: Part One
We've drooled over vintage pulp science fiction art from the likes of Virgil Finlay, Frank R. Paul , and Ed Emshwiller b efore. But this mostly black and white interior artwork, scanned and posted to Flickr by user Frederick Barr , is just astonishing. Frederick Barr, who posts on Flickr as Modern Fred , has been posting a flood of "Fantastic Mid-Century Science Fiction Pulp Illustrations" for months now, interspersed with book covers, Googie architecture, and trippy s movie screencaps. They include the work of Finlay, Emshwiller, and a bunch of other artists you've admired before. But they're starkly beautiful and amazing.

Short stories, art, poetry, and more from these genres are plentiful and remarkable, if you know where to look. For years, science fiction and fantasy magazines have provided readers with a wealth of work that falls outside the novel format. The best part about this content, though, might just be how easy it is to access.
